
Alabama Women’s Tennis Set to Host SEC Championships, Opens Play Monday

The Crimson Tide opens the five-day championships Monday at 2 p.m., vs. the Mississippi State at the Alabama Tennis Stadium
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide is hosting the 2021 Women's Southeastern Conference Tennis Championships at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, April 19-23. Alabama opens the five-day tournament on Monday at 2 p.m. against Mississippi State.
The Crimson Tide comes into the postseason with a 12-11 mark overall and a 10-6 record at home. The MSU Bulldogs are 10-11 overall and 2-5 on the road. The two teams met earlier this season with MSU taking a narrow 4-3 win in Tuscaloosa on March 13.
Monday's second of two matches features Missouri vs. Arkansas and is slated to get underway at 5 p.m.

"We're excited about hosting the SEC Women's Tennis Championship at Alabama. I told our team today that in my 24 years at Alabama this is only our second time hosting the prestigious SEC Championships. It's a privilege to host and play at home in front of our Alabama fans. Our event management staff and administration do a commendable job of hosting first-class events and everything is in place for an excellent championships. Our team has improved through the course of the season and we're looking forward to a rematch with Mississippi State Monday at 2 p.m."
The Schedule
- In addition to two matches on Monday, the championships will feature four matches on both Tuesday and Wednesday, starting at 9 a.m. both days
- After opening both days at 9 a.m., subsequent Tuesday and Wednesday matches are slated to start at 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
- Thursday will feature two semifinal matches, starting at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
- The championship match is set for Friday at 9 a.m. and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network
First and Second Day Matchups
- On Monday, No. 12-seed Alabama faces No. 13 Mississippi State at 2 p.m. and No. 14 Missouri takes on No. 11 Arkansas at 5 p.m.
- Tuesday sees No. 9-seed Kentucky vs. No. 8 Ole Miss (9 a.m.), the winner of Alabama/Mississippi State vs. No. 5 Tennessee (12 p.m.), No. 10 Vanderbilt vs. No. 7 South Carolina (3 p.m.) and the winner of Missouri/Arkansas vs. No. 6 Auburn (6 p.m.)
- No. 1-seed Georgia, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 4 LSU have byes until Wednesday
Fans and The SEC Championships
- Due to health and safety considerations in addition to the current guidelines, attendance at the SEC Women's Tennis Championships is on a first-come, first-served basis until reaching capacity if the matches are played outdoors
- Admission, if matches are played outdoors, is free
- Facial coverings must be worn at all times unless eating or drinking
- If matches are played indoors, there will be no spectators allowed
