
No. 16 Alabama Rowing Opens Spring Schedule Saturday Against Eastern Michigan

Racing on the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa begins at 9 a.m. CT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 16 Alabama rowing opens its spring schedule Saturday, March 6 against Eastern Michigan. Racing on the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa is slated to begin at 9 a.m. CT.
The teams will compete in a pair of 2,000-meter races, with the 4s starting things off at 9 a.m. CT followed by the 8s at 9:15 a.m. After a break, the teams will compete in a series of six 1,500-meter pieces split between the 4 and 8 boats starting at 9:40 a.m. CT.
RACE SCHEDULE
- 9 a.m. CT – 2,000m Varsity 4+
- 9:15 a.m. CT – 2,000m Varsity 8+
- 9:40 a.m. CT – 1,500m Varsity 4+
- 9:50 a.m. CT – 1,500m Varsity 8+
- 10 a.m. CT – 1,500m Varsity 4+
- 10:10 a.m. CT – 1,500m Varsity 8+
- 10:20 a.m. CT – 1,500m Varsity 4+
- 10:30 a.m. CT – 1,500m Varsity 8+
SCOUTING ALABAMA
- Alabama enters the season ranked No. 16 in the Division I Pocock CRCA Preseason Poll, its highest ranking in program history
- This weekend is the first of two home races for the Crimson Tide, returning to Tuscaloosa on Saturday, March 20 against conference rival Tennessee
- Alabama's last competition was also against the Eagles, welcoming them and SMU to the Black Warrior River on Feb. 29, 2020 before the remainder of the spring season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic
- The Tide entered 2020 with plenty of positive momentum from 2019, which saw the team earn a program-best second place finish at the Big 12 Championships under then-first year head coach Glenn Putyrae, who was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year
ALABAMA EARNS HIGHEST RANKING IN PROGRAM HISTORY
- Alabama rowing enters its 2021 spring season this weekend with its highest-ever ranking, coming in at No. 16 in the Division I Pocock CRCA Preseason Poll, released Wednesday by USRowing
- It is the highest mark in program history and the Crimson Tide's first appearance in the preseason rankings, previously earning votes outside the top 25 in last year's preseason poll
- Alabama made its first ever appearance in the top 25 in 2019, placing as high as 17th under then-first year head coach Glenn Putyrae, who is in his third season at the helm of the Tide this year
