MOBILE, Ala. – Alabama soccer earned its fifth win of the spring season thanks to a 4-2 victory over South Alabama on Sunday afternoon at the South Alabama Soccer Complex.
The Crimson Tide came out firing, scoring three goals in the first 45 minutes of the game. Alabama got on the board first thanks to a shot from Felicia Knox in the 20th minute. Knox received the ball from Macy Clem and fired from just outside the 18-yard box into the side of the net to give UA a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Kat Rogers curled the ball past the USA goalkeeper on a pass from Clem to push the advantage to two.
Alabama continued the first-half scoring when Clem chipped a ball into the box for the Sydney Vincens header at the 42-minute mark, pushing the lead to 3-0 going to the halftime break. The Crimson Tide's offense outshot the Jaguars, 10-1, in the first half to build what would prove to be an insurmountable lead.
South Alabama returned from the break with an offensive-minded attack, firing off nine shots in the last 45 minutes of the game. The Jaguars were quick to score in the second half, with Laurence Saviana scoring in the 55th minute after an error in the back line. Once the Jaguars found momentum, Gracie Wilson fired off a volley inside the box in the 62nd minute for another USA goal.
The Crimson Tide would not let the game get any closer as UA responded with a goal in the 65th minute. Rogers crossed the ball into the box and Tanna Sanchez-Carreto bicycle kicked the ball into the back of the net to secure the win for the Tide.
