Alabama Track and Field Remains In State for Second Outdoor Event at the Tiger Track Classic

The Tiger Track Classic is the Crimson Tide’s second outdoor meet of the spring, following the Jaguar Opener earlier in the month
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's track and field teams ramp up their outdoor competition season this Friday and Saturday in Auburn, Ala. at the Tiger Track Classic.
Competition will start with the men's and women's hammer throw and 2 p.m. CT and 4 p.m. CT respectively on Friday. Friday's competition schedule also includes the distance races for the meet. The competition will continue at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday with the women's pole vault event. The running events will begin at 12:00 p.m. CT and the men's 4x400-meter relay will wrap up competition at 4:35 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Scouting the Field
Alabama will face a field that includes men's and women's squads from Auburn, Alabama State, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, MTSU, Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Troy along with women's teams from UAB and Vanderbilt.
National Ranks
- Both Crimson Tide squads finished their indoor seasons nationally ranked on the National Track and Field Rating Index
- The men concluded the season in seventh place and the women ended in 16th place after both squads competed in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend
Last Time Out
- Alabama travelled south to Mobile, Ala. to compete in the Jaguar Opener earlier this month
- The Jaguar Opener was the first outdoor meet the Alabama men and women competed in for the season and featured a limited number of Crimson Tide athletes
- Both teams came out strong and ultimately won seven of the eight events they participated in
- Robert Dunning won the 110-meter hurdles (13.68) and the 400-meter hurdles (51.73)
- Matthew Weaver came in second behind Dunning in the 400-meter hurdles (53.72)
- Freshman Jonathan Martin took home gold in the 100-meter (10.73) and the 200-meter (21.82)
- Natassha McDonald, Katie Funcheon and D'Jai Baker went 1-2-3 in the women's 200-meter dash with McDonald posting a 23.69 for top honors
- For the distance races, Esther Gitahi and Leah Hanle swept the top-two spots in the women's 5,000-meters, and Vincent Kiprop ran away from the field in the men's 5,000-meters (14:02.94)
During the Tiger Track Classic, no spectators will be allowed. Per Auburn Sports Medicine Directive, masks are required to be worn by all coaches and non-competing members of every team in attendance.
