
Alabama Kicks Off the Tiger Track Classic with Gold Medal and Six Other Top-10 Finishes

The Crimson Tide men and women finished day one of competition with strong showings in both the field and running events
AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama track and field opened the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., with a gold medal in the men's hammer throw and six other top-10 finishes.
The Tiger Track Classic is just the Tide's second meet for the outdoor season. While most of the events Alabama is competing in will be held on Saturday, the Tide competed in the men's and women's hammer  and javelin as well as the men's 5,000-meters on Friday.
Friday Results
- Kieran McKeag won the gold medal in the men's hammer throw with a huge throw of 67.38m
- For the Alabama women, Samantha Kunza placed fourth and Taylor Gorum placed 12th in the hammer throw with marks of 58.99m and 53.21m, respectively
- Kristen Hopkins recorded a mark of 41.76m in the women's javelin event to finish seventh
- Braden Pyron also competed in his first collegiate outdoor meet for the Tide finishing 10th in javelin with a throw of 51.31m
- To end the night, the Alabama men competed in the 5,000-meters, taking three of the top-10 spots - Paul Selden in sixth (14:45.40), Rich Saenz in seventh (14:45.85) and Jack Hawes in ninth (15:38.86)
- Scott Platek finished 11th (14:54.88) and Alex Mielke finished 16th (15:38.86) to round out the Alabama runners in the 5,000-meters
