
Alabama Women’s Swimming and Diving in Sixth Place after Day Two of the NCAA Championships

The Crimson Tide scored in four different events Thursday, including a pair of sixth-place finishes
GREENSBORO, N.C. – After scoring in four events on the second night of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, Alabama remains in sixth place with 90 points at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C., Thursday.
The Crimson Tide opened the finals with a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay from Kalia Antoniou, Morgan Scott, Flora Molnar and Cora Dupre. Kensey McMahon scored the Crimson Tide's first individual points of the meet, taking 10th in the 500 freestyle.
Antoniou came back in the championship final of the 50 freestyle to take sixth place, while the 400 medley relay of Rhyan White, Diana Petkova, Gracie Felner and Cora Dupre combined to take ninth to close the session.
Through just seven of 21 events at the national championships, Alabama has already tallied it highest points total since 1996. In sixth place overall, Alabama is the highest ranked Southeastern Conference squad at the championships through day two.

"We had another good night. We continue to score points and move forward through this meet. We're proud of the way we competed, but we know that with the talent at this meet overall, we have to continue to fight for every tenth of a second and every point. More than anything, we're ready to come back tomorrow and keep this thing rolling."
Day Two Highlights
- Kalia Antoniou, Morgan Scott, Flora Molnar and Cora Dupre combined to post a 1:27.90, and take sixth place in the 200 freestyle relay
- This year's squad is the first since 1985 to finish in the top-eight in the 200 freestyle relay at the NCAA Championships
- Kensey McMahon took 10th place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:39.98, becoming the first UA woman to score in the event at the national championships since 1986
- Kalia Antoniou went 21.85 in the 50 freestyle to take sixth place, becoming the first Alabama woman to finish in the top-eight of the event at NCAAs since 1994
- Antoniou is one of just three Alabama women to break 22 seconds in the 50, and after Thursday's swims, the school record holder in the event has broken that barrier six times, including three times between prelims and finals at NCAAs
- Rhyan White, Diana Petkova, Gracie Felner and Dupre combined to swim a 3:30.69 and take ninth in the 400 medley relay, giving the Tide points in the event for the first time since 2016
