GREENSBORO, N.C. – A trio of big swims from Rhyan White helped keep the Crimson Tide in sixth place through three days of competition at the Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships being held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C., this week.
White came up huge with a silver-medal finish in the 100 backstroke after taking fifth in the 100 butterfly just three events earlier. White posted a school-record 50.75 in the prelims of the 100 butterfly before going 50.99 in finals. She then came back with a 50.21 in the finals of the 100 backstroke to take second place.
White finished off her night by leading off the 200 medley relay that included Kaila Wong, Morgan Scott and Kalia Antoniou. The quartet finished sixth in a time of 1:35.80. It marked Alabama's third relay to finish in the top eight and the fourth relay to score at these championships.
Scott also earned individual points for the Crimson Tide on day three, tying for first place in the B final of the 200 freestyle and tying for ninth overall with a 1:44.39.
Alabama remains in sixth place as a team with 155 points with one day remaining at the championships. At this point in the meet, Alabama is the top-ranked Southeastern Conference Championship team.
Interim Head Coach Ozzie Quevedo Said
"That was quite the night for the Crimson Tide. We are so proud of Rhyan for powering through with five swims today and getting the silver in the 100 backstroke and finishing in the top six in the 100 butterfly and as part of the 200 medley relay. With one day to go, we're in a good position but we can't let up, we have to finish tough to have the kind of team finish that we've worked for all season long. We are extremely proud of this team and can't wait for the final day of these championships."
