Alabama’s Herbert Jones Earns 2021 Associated Press All-America Honors

Jones becomes the 20th different player to earn honor, second since 2008
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama forward Herbert Jones was named a 2021 Associated Press Men's Basketball All-American, it was announced Tuesday. By earned a spot on the third team, Jones becomes the 20th All-American in program history to earn the distinction, and first to earn a spot on an All-American team since former great Erwin Dudley the honor achieved the feat in 2002.

- In between Dudley's and Jones' honors, Mo Williams was named a 2002 Freshman All-American, while Kennedy Winston (2005), Ronald Steele (2006), Richard Hendrix (2008) and Collin Sexton (2018) each earned honorable mention honors.
- Jones was also named all-district first team in addition to winning the SEC's Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards
- One of only two players in the nation (Evan Mobley, USC) who are a semifinalist (Top 10) for both the Naismith Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year
- Helped lead Alabama to the team's first SEC regular season title in 19 years (2002) and first SEC Tournament championship in 30 years (1991)
- Across the Crimson Tide's 30 games on the season, Jones is averaging 11.2 points per game and leads UA in assists (3.4 apg), rebounding (6.5 rpg), steals (1.8 spg) and blocks (1.1 bpg)
The Greensboro, Ala., native is one of just two players in the nation named to both the Defensive Player of the Year and Player of the Year lists. He is also having the best offensive season of his four-year career. Recently he was named the consensus SEC Player of the Year and SEC Defensive Player of the Year by the SEC Coaches, AP and USA Today.
Jones leads Alabama with nine games of five or more assists this season, while leading the team in rebounding 16 times, assists 13 games, steals 13 times and blocks on 12 occasions which are all team-best numbers. He is averaging 1.8 steals, 1.1 blocks and 4.2 defensive rebounds per game while playing on the nation's No. 2 rated defense. No player in all of college basketball in the last 10 years has averaged numbers that high across those three key defensive stats while playing for a top-5 rated defense.
