
No. 17 Alabama Men’s Golf Finishes Day One of the LSU Invitational

The Crimson Tide in 14th overall after the opening 18 holes
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 17 Alabama men's golf team opened play at the LSU Invitational on Friday, finishing with a team total of 307 to end the day in 14th overall.
Illinois, ranked No. 29 overall in the Golfweek Coaches Poll entering the event, holds the clubhouse lead at 5-over par 293 to rank one stroke ahead of No. 4 Tennessee and No. 6 Georgia, both of which carded rounds of 6-over 294. Second-ranked Vanderbilt and No. 27 Arkansas State are tied for fourth overall at 295, while No. 19 Florida and No. 20 South Carolina are tied for sixth with a 298, nine strokes ahead of the Tide.
Highlights
- Canon Claycomb paced Alabama as he finished with a 2-over par 74 to end the day in a tie for 16th overall
- Thomas Ponder and JP Cave are tied for 51st after both carded opening rounds of 7-over 77, while Wilson Furr ended the day with a 9-over 79 and is in a tie for 71st overall
- Cave collected his first career eagle which came on the par 5, 554-yard sixth hole
- Davis Shore rounded out the Tide's starting five with an 81 on the par 72, 7,227-yard course University Club Golf Course
- Jack Goldasich, playing as an individual, finished his first career round as a member of the Crimson Tide with a round of 78 and is in 67th overall

- Only six of the 90 players competing in the event carded below-par rounds, led by Illinois golfer Jerry Ji who leads the field after shooting a 3-under par 69
