
Alabama Men’s Golf Makes Big Jump up Leaderboard in Second Round of LSU Invitational

The Crimson Tide moved up six spots into eighth overall after even par 288 in round two
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 17 Alabama men's golf team made the largest jump up the leaderboard by any team on day two of the LSU Invitational Saturday, moving up six spots into eighth overall. The Crimson Tide (595) improved by 19 strokes from the opening round 307 by shooting an even par 288 on day two, the second-best score of the day by any school in the 15-team field.
What made the round even more impressive is Alabama played with just four golfers in the lineup, as Davis Shore was sidelined with a back issue.
Florida, ranked No. 19 overall in the Golfweek Coaches Poll entering the event, carded a team low of seven-under par 281 and move into first place overall with a 579. First round leader No. 29 Illinois (582) is in second while No. 2 Vanderbilt (587) and No. 27 Arkansas State (587) is in a tie for third. South Carolina (588), ranked No. 20, rounds out the top five teams.
Highlights
- Canon Claycomb continued his solid play and leads the team in a tie for 12th overall with a 36-hole score of 2-over par 146 (74-72)
- Wilson Furr had the best round by any Crimson Tide golfer as he closed the day at 3-under par 69 on Saturday, marking his team-leading sixth round in the 60s this year and 20th such 18-hole total for his career
- Furr (79-69) is tied with Thomas Ponder (77-71) for 26th overall with both players carding a two-day total of 4-over par 148
- Ponder's second day total of 1-under par 71 was his 10th round this year of par or better, equaling Furr for the team lead in the statistic
- JP Cave rounded out the Tide golfers on Saturday with a 153 (77-76) to end the day in a tie for 59th overall
- Jack Goldasich, playing as an individual, finished also had as solid performance with a1-over 73 and is in a tie for 48th overall with a 151 (78-73) across his 36 holes played
Fun Fact
- Cave collected his second eagle in as many days. After recording eagle on the par 5, 554-yard 6th hole on Friday, he equaled the feat on the par 5, 557-yard 11th hole Saturday. He leads the 90-man field with the two eagles in tournament play.
Final Round
- The Crimson Tide will tee off its third and final round of play on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. C.T.
- Alabama tee off on Hole No. 1 and will be paired alongside Kentucky and Mississippi State
