TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball opened play at the Easton Crimson City Classic Friday with a doubleheader sweep against Memphis, winning 8-3 and 5-1.
Fifteen different Alabama (11-0) players came to the plate in the doubleheader against Memphis (0-6), with eight earning a hit. In game one, Maddie Morgan and Bailey Dowling each drove in a pair of runs, with Dowling going 2-for-3 for her third multi-hit game of the season. In game two, Bailey Hemphill and Kaylee Tow provided the spark batting third and fourth, respectively, with Hemphill going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and Tow driving in three on a fifth-inning home run, her third of the season.
Hemphill's two RBIs pushes her to 191 for her career, tying her with Kelly Kretschman (1998-2001) at fourth all-time in the Crimson Tide record books.
In the circle, Fouts (5-0) struck out 11 batters in 4.1 innings of work in game one, with Jaala Torrence making her first appearance at Rhoads Stadium in relief with 2.2 one-hit innings with five strikeouts. Krystal Goodman (1-0) went the distance in game two for her first win of the season, allowing just one run over 7.0 innings.
FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY
"It was good to some players experience in the games today. Kayla Davis ripped a ball and Kat Grill got on base three times. In the nine spot, she got on base three times and turned the lineup over which is a very good thing, especially for a freshman in her first start. Everybody got some action tonight which is really good to see."
