COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Alabama men secured two more medals and dropped a school record during the second day of swimming at the 2021 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships being held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo., this week.
Rookie Matt King snagged his second silver medal in as many days, posting an 18.96 in the 50 freestyle to take second. King then combined with Sam DiSette, Jonathan Berneburg and Colton Stogner to grab the bronze medal in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:16.32.
Matt Menke started the Crimson Tide's night out with a 1:43.69 school record in the 200 individual medley on the way to winning the B final and taking ninth overall.
Interim Head Coach Ozzie Quevedo Said
"We didn't have the morning that we were looking for, but we bounced back strong tonight and made the most of the swims we had. Matt Menke got us off to a great start tonight, giving us a spark with a huge school record in the 200 IM. We're proud of the job that Matt King is doing at his first SEC Championships and the way that he, Sam, Jonny and Colton continue to keep us on the podium when it comes to the relays. We've built a great legacy in the relays, especially the sprint relays and it's great to keep that rolling. Now we need to carry tonight's success over into tomorrow and the rest of the meet."
