The Crimson Tide hosts the Easton Crimson Classic this weekend
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball remains undefeated on the young season after a 7-1 win over UAB Wednesday night at Rhoads Stadium.
The Alabama (9-0) offense got things started early again, scoring in the first inning for the fifth game in a row. A Bailey Dowling three-run home run gave the Crimson Tide the lead over UAB (4-5) and Alabama remained in front for the remained of the game, scoring in four of the six innings at the plate. In the circle, Sarah Cornell (1-0) earned her first win of the season, allowing just three hits and one run over 5.0 innings while Lexi Kilfoyl threw 2.0 shutout innings behind her, striking out four of the seven batters she faced. Amy Woodham (0-4) took the loss for the Blazers.
FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY
"It was a good win. UAB has a very deep pitching staff. I was impressed, their reliever was really good. I think the whole game was settled in the first inning when Bailey Dowling hit that home run. That was a big hit for us. It really set the tone for the entire night. I will take that win. Bailey has battled at the plate this whole season. She keeps getting to the next pitch until she gets something she can drive. For her to do it as a freshman is even more impressive."
