
Soccer Continues 2020-21 Season Friday Against Columbus State

After nearly a three-month layoff from competition, the Crimson Tide will continue its 2020-21 campaign
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team will continue its 2020-21 season Friday afternoon welcoming the Columbus State Cougars to the Alabama Soccer Complex for a 2 p.m. CT match.
In compliance with CDC and state public health guidance, seating in the Alabama Soccer Stadium will be socially distanced resulting in capacity to the first 250 fans in attendance. Masks are required for entry and must be worn at all times while not eating or drinking.
About Alabama
- Head coach Wes Hart enters his sixth season at Alabama and owns a career record of 46-48-13 over his previous five seasons.
- The team returns eight starters and 10 letterwinners from the fall slate, that saw the Tide finish with a record of 2-5-2.
- Earlier this fall, Alabama made its 13th appearance at the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Scouting Columbus State
- In 2019, Entlich led the Cougars to a 13-7 overall finish, and wrapped up conference play fourth in the Peach Belt Conference with a 7-4 record.
- The Cougars return a loaded roster of 21 letterwinners, which includes senior leading goal scorer Kimmy May, who notched eight goals and four assists last year.
- Columbus State also welcomes back junior Kimmy Edgeworth as a threat on the attacking end, as she scored seven goals and two assists during the 2019 season.
- Goalkeeper Bria Riancho recorded 1,371 minutes in the 2019 season and led the Cougars to 10 shutouts in the 2018 season.
Last Time Out
- Alabama faced the LSU Tigers in the opening round of the SEC Tournament but fell short with a final score of 2-0.
- Despite the loss, the Tide outshot the Tigers 21-16, including 10 shots on target.
- Riley Mattingly and Reyna Reyes led the charge with four shots a piece.
- The Tide also held an advantage in corner kicks, taking 11 (12-1) more opportunities than LSU.
- The Tigers scored in the 12th minute and solidified the match in the 87th minute.
Returning Firepower
- Two members of the Crimson Tide received post-season honors.
- Forward Riley Mattingly received Second Team All-SEC, while midfielder Felicia Knox earned SEC All-Freshman Team.
- Midfielder Reyes got the call to practice with the Mexican Women's National Team camp earlier this month.
- Mattingly and Knox both scored two goals for the Tide back in the fall and will be returning to the pitch this spring.
- Crone, transfer goalkeeper, led the Tide in minutes played and recorded 46 saves in her first season with the Tide.
- Crone ranks fourth in the league with an average of 5.11 saves per game.
Following Friday's match against Columbus State, the Tide will host two consecutive matches against Louisiana (Feb. 26) and Montevallo (March 4).
