TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The honors continue to roll in for Alabama soccer's Reyna Reyes as the Garland, Texas, native was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Second Team, the organization announced recently.
The Crimson Tide junior is just the third UA player to receive the academic accolade and the first since 2001, joining Christine Miller (1998) and Denise Peters (2001). Majoring in business, Reyes holds a 3.63 cumulative grade point average.
The honor is one of several awards this season for Reyes. She was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team, the third player in program history to earn first-team honors and first to be selected all-region three times, and First Team All-SEC, the program's first two-time recipient since 1999. She was also named to TopDrawSoccer's Team of the Week following her defensive performance in the team's first-ever NCAA Tournament win when Alabama defeated Clemson, 1-0, as well as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against then-No. 24 LSU and SEC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Tide's upset win over then-No. 19 Auburn.
Reyes led the Alabama defense to seven shutouts which included 1-0 wins over No. 19 Auburn, No. 24 LSU and NCAA first round foe Clemson. Despite playing most of the season on the backline, Reyes tallied seven points, scoring three goals, two of which were game-winners, and an assist. She started 20 games, missing just two matches as she trained with the Mexican National Team, and played 1,723 minutes, ranking fourth on the team.
