Herbert Jones puts the league on notice and Josh Primo makes history after call-up
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Another month of basketball has passed, and the Tide are making waves around the association. Below is a look at a few former Crimson Tide players' highlights from both the NBA and abroad:
HERBERT JONES, NEW ORLEANS PELICANS
- Jones has made a name for himself in his rookie season impressing NBA fans with his defensive prowess and ability to shut down superstar players.
- His impact on the floor is undeniable and the Pelicans have even coined the phrase "Not on Herb" when a player is matched up against him.
- He scored a career-high 18 points (3-4 3PT) against the Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 11 and has started in his last three games while averaging 5.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.5 steals on 25.7 minutes this season.
JOSHUA PRIMO, SAN ANTONIO SPURS
- Primo was called up by the Spurs on Nov. 10 after spending time with the Austin Toros of the G-League. In his five games with the Spurs affiliate, he averaged 16.6 points, 4.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.8 blocks in 27.5 minutes per game.
- Against the Suns on Dec. 6, Primo swatted four shots and had three steals, becoming the third-youngest NBA player to record four blocked shots in a game
- In his second contest since being called up he was perfect from the field making both threes that he attempted and recording one assist
COLLIN SEXTON, CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
- Sexton will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced on Nov. 19, after tearing his meniscus in a game versus the New York Knicks on Nov. 7. Sexton played a key role in the Cavaliers' early success. He will become a restricted free agent this offseason.
KIRA LEWIS JR., NEW ORLEANS PELICANS
- Lewis suffered a torn ACL and sprained MCL in the second quarter of the Pelicans' game vs. Denver on Dec. 8.
- The injury came just when Lewis was starting to find a rhythm this season as he achieved season-highs in a victory over the Clippers on Nov. 19 when he put up 16 points (2-3 3PT) and 3 steals to go along with 4 assists and 4 rebounds.
JOHN PETTY JR., NEW ORLEANS PELICANS
- John Petty is helping the Birmingham Squadron attract attention in their inaugural season along with some other familiar faces from the SEC.
- In his six games with the Squadron, Petty is averaging 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 steals over 27.0 minutes.
EUROPEAN CRIMSON TIDE PROS
- Through 13 games with AS Monaco, Donta Hall has averaged 10.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 20.1 minutes, earning his first start in their last contest.
- Hall offers a consistent presence around the basket as he is second in the EuroLeague with 30 offensive rebounds and continues to impress with his ferocious dunks.
- He is also threatening as the block leader sitting second in the league with 18 blocks.
- Retin Obasohan has been a force in his time with Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem sustaining an impressive 21.1points per game, also earning 4.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals and shooting at a 53% clip from three.
- He has the goods to be the Israel Basketball Super League MVP and his team has turned the corner with the help of his dominant offense.
- Obasohan led the scoring again in Hapoel's most recent victory with 22 points, 5 assists, and 1 rebound.
- Levi Randolph and Filou Oostende are still without a blemish to their season sitting atop the BNTX standings at 10-0. Randolph leads the team with 15.8 points, 2.0 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 27.5 minutes.
- In their most recent victory he logged 18 points, 4 rebounds, and two blocks to secure the league win.
- He continues to impress in the Champions League putting up 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists his last time out.
- Tony Mitchell has been quite the journeyman since his sophomore season at Alabama playing in Italy, Russia, Israel, Australia, Morocco, and now with the TaiwanBeer HeroBears of the T1 League.
- Through two games in Taiwan, Mitchell is averaging 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 1.5 steals in 45.0 minutes per game.
