The Crimson Tide junior is Alabama’s 24th selection for the academic accolade
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama soccer's Bella Scaturro was named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team, the organization announced Thursday.
A finance major with a 4.0 grade point average, Scaturro has helped secure the Crimson Tide's backline. Scaturro and the Alabama defense recorded six shutouts during the season, including holding then-No. 24 LSU and then-No. 19 Auburn scoreless through 90 minutes. The team allowed only eight goals at home throughout the season, holding opponents to a 0.67 goals scored average while the tallying a 1.92 average at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.
Scaturro started 17-of-20 games for the Tide. Despite playing on the backline, the junior opened up the scoring in the team's 3-2 win over Southern Miss, dribbling through the defense to fire a shot from the top of box. Scaturro was also instrumental in the team's upset of then No. 24-ranked LSU Tigers as she snuck behind the defense to deliver a cross onto the head of teammate Reyna Reyes for the winning shot.
Scaturro garnered the program's 24th CoSIDA Academic All-District honor since 2002. She is the program's first honoree since Nealy Martin and Alex Palvin won the award in 2019. The Lakewood, Colo., native has been accepted into the accelerated master's program for finance and will work towards a master's degree beginning in the spring of 2022.
