Macy Clem scored the lone goal for the Crimson Tide
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alabama soccer team (7-7-0, 2-3-0 SEC) fell to the No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks (10-2-0, 5-0 SEC), 3-1, in a Thursday night matchup at the Razorback Soccer Field.
Continuing the tradition of tough head-to-head battles, Alabama and Arkansas finished the first half with both teams scoring one goal apiece. The Razorbacks got on the board first after Ava Tankersley received a ball from the flank in the 28th minute and tapped it into the back of the net. Alabama answered in the 35th minute with Kat Rogers whipping a corner kick into the box to find the head of midfielder Macy Clem.
Arkansas came out with an offensive mindset, leaving Alabama on the defensive in the opening moments of the second half. Bryana Hunter netted a goal in the 46th minute after heading the ball off a cross to put the Razorbacks up by one. A minute later, Kiley Dulaney fired a shot off from the top of the box and bent it into the back of the net. Alabama created opportunities late in the second half but could not capitalize against the top-10 opponent.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"Arkansas is so incredibly athletic and aggressive. Their press is as good as any team I've seen. We knew we needed to connect some passes in order to break it and slow them down, but we were never able to do so effectively. We fought hard and competed, but just weren't good enough on the night. We can't dwell on this one. We got to move on to the next."
Behind the Box Score
- Macy Clem tallied her third goal of the season
- Kat Rogers recorded her second assist on the year
- Goalkeeper McKinley Crone tied a season-high six saves on the night. The last time Crone was forced to make six saves was against Utah Valley.
- Alabama trailed in shots fired, earning 10 compared to Arkansas' 17
- Alabama held the advantage in corners, registering 11 while Arkansas registered eight
- Razorback Ava Tankersley netted her fourth goal of the season. Bryana Hunter and Kiley Dulaney both scored their first goals of the season.
