Riley Tanner lifted the Crimson Tide to victory after scoring her second goal of the season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team (8-7-0, 3-3-0 SEC) defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-6-3, 1-4-1 SEC), 1-0, in its annual Power of Pink match on Sunday afternoon. Riley Tanner notched the game-winner goal off a cleared corner kick, firing the ball back through the box and into the net.
It was a defensive battle between the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs in the first 45 minutes of the match. Mississippi State had one offensive opportunity after firing a shot toward net, but goalkeeper McKinley Crone came up big to preserve the shutout and keep the Bulldogs searching for a goal.
After a silent first half, Alabama came out dominating in the attack, leading the board in shots (10) and corners (5). After a cleared corner kick in the 72nd minute, Alabama's Tanner cracked a shot off on her first touch to bury the ball into the back of the net, freezing the goalkeeper in her tracks.

From Head Coach Wes Hart
"Really pleased with how we grew into the game. A little bit of a slow start, but as the game wore on, we got better and better. They are very stingy defensively. They frustrated us in the first half, but we found ways to break them down in the second."
