Kate Henderson lodged her fifth goal of the season after scoring the equalizer
COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – The Alabama soccer team (8-7-1, 3-3-1 SEC) came away with one point in SEC play after a 1-1 draw against Texas A&M (6-7-2, 2-4-1 SEC) Friday at Ellis Field in College Station, Texas.
It was a silent first half for the Crimson Tide and the Aggies. Neither team was able to capitalize in the attacking third, despite playing good, technical soccer. The two teams were evenly matched going into halftime with Alabama firing off six shots compared to A&M's five.
The Aggies netted the first goal of the night in the 45th minute after Mia Pante played a ball to Barbara Olivieri where she took a touch and fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box. About 10 minutes later, Alabama earned a free kick at the top of the box which led to midfielder Felicia Knox whipping in a ball. After Knox played a curling ball into the box, forward Kate Henderson dove for the header to give the Crimson Tide the equalizer. The rest of the half was a physical battle as the Aggies drew nine fouls while Alabama recorded two. Despite the aggression of the game, Alabama continued to keep composure and took A&M into overtime.
During the two overtime periods, the Tide created a couple of chances but overall could not pull off a three-point win. Alabama held the advantage in shots 3-2, forcing Aggie goalkeeper Kenna Caldwell to make one save.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"I am pleased with our performance tonight. I thought we played well. Really happy with our response after going down early in the second half. Kate (Henderson) scored a great goal to equalize. I would have liked to leave here with three points, but we will certainly take the point and move on."
