Thomason sunk her fifth penalty kick goal of the season, setting a new Alabama record
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama soccer posted its third straight shutout Sunday afternoon at the Alabama Soccer Stadium, defeating South Alabama, 3-0, as senior Larkin Thomason set a new school record with her fifth penalty kick goal of the season.
Thomason is 5-for-5 this season in penalty kicks, breaking the previous Alabama (6-0-0) single season record of four held by Theresa Diederich (2011) and Katie French (2002). The senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., scored twice against South Alabama (1-3-1), pushing her career points total to 99. Both of Thomason's goals came in the second half, while Maison Smith's first of the year got the Crimson Tide on the board in the 24th minute in the first half.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"I'm super proud of the group. They came out and I really thought we were the aggressor. We did a better job this game than the previous game at looking more urgent to score goals and make things happen. Against Troy, I thought that first half we looked a little content just keeping the ball. This game, I thought that our possession was plentiful and led to some very good chances. I know that it took a while there to get that second goal, but it wasn't from a lack of chances."
From Larkin Thomason
"It is amazing. This team is so full of life. Just being able to have them pour into me and me pour it back into them. That just makes it all worth it."
