Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko won the Wilmink-Van Dijk Doubles draw on the opening day of the tournament
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko led the Alabama women's tennis team on the opening day at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic on Friday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium, winning the Wilmink-Van Dijk Doubles Draw.
Sedlackova and Parkhomenko won three matches on their way to clinching the Wilmink-Van Dijk Doubles Draw. The UA pair opened with a 6-4 win against Tulane's Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell. Sedlackova and Parkhomenko put together a dominate performance in their second match, posting a 6-0 score against Indiana's Alexandra Staiculescu and Mila Mejic, before going 6-1 in the finals against Elysia Pool and Lillian Gabrielsen from Ole Miss.
Kasia Pitak and Ola Pitak also concluded the day with strong performances, advancing their way into the Routliffe-Jansen Doubles Draw finals. In their opening match, Kasia Pitak and Ola Pitak battled to a 6-6 draw against Alice Amendola and Lesedi Jacobs of FSU, before coming out victorious with a 7-4 score in the tiebreak. The two followed with a 6-4 win in the semifinals against Tulane's Kristen Borland and Mackenzie Clark to advance their way into the finals. Kasia Pitak and Ola Pitak fell 6-2 against Northwestern's Sydney Pratt and Hannah McColgan to finish as the runner-up in the draw.
Alabama will return to action tomorrow for the conclusion of the Roberta Alision Fall Classic with singles matches beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
