Alabama in Third After 36 Holes of Action on Day One of Jackson T. Stephens Cup

Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder and Dillon West among top-10 individuals to lead the way for the Crimson Tide
ROLAND, Ark. – The Alabama men's golf team is in third overall after with a team score of 6-over par 582 (292-290) after 36 holes of action at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. The three-day event, which is being held at the par 72, 7,500-yard Alotian Golf Club, will feature one more round of stroke play Tuesday that will set the table for Wednesday's final round of match play.
The Crimson Tide opened play with a 36-hole total of 6-over par 582 (292-290) and is two strokes back of Arizona (580) for second place and a spot in Wednesday's championship match. Notre Dame (569) leads the six-team field by 11 strokes. The final round of stroke play will take place Tuesday morning.
Day One Recap
- Three Crimson Tide golfers finished the day among the top 10, led by Canon Claycomb who is in fifth overall after day one
- Claycomb opened play with a 1-over 73 in the morning and followed it with a 1-under 71 Monday afternoon to finish with a 144
- Thomas Ponder is in a tie for seventh at 1-over par 145 (72-73)
- Dillon West, who shot the team's lowest round of the day with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon, is in a tie for ninth at 3-over par 147 (77-70)
- JP Cave (76-76) and Tyler Lipscomb (71-81) are in a tie for 23rd at 152 to round out the UA golfers

- Golf Channel will provide live broadcasts on each day of official tournament play: Tuesday: 2-5 p.m. CT and Wednesday: 2-5 p.m. CT
- The nightly encore broadcast schedule will be determined closer to the tournament

- The tournament will feature NCAA Division I National Championship-contending men's and women's teams
- The format will be 54 holes of stroke play setting the field for a final day of match play based on the stroke-play team finish and will also recognize a 54-hole stroke play medalist honoree
