Alabama Men’s Tennis Heads to ITA Southern Regionals

The Crimson Tide will send six athletes to regional tournament in Auburn, Ala.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team will send members to the ITA Southern Regionals at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala. The tournament will begin on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 9 a.m. CT and will run through Tuesday, Oct. 19.

The Tournament

The five-day tournament will begin Thursday with qualifying matches before concluding with a singles and doubles champion on Tuesday, Oct. 19
Singles finalists and the doubles champions will advance to the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, Calif.
Alabama will compete against members from Alabama State, Alcorn State, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Louisiana, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and UAB
Two rounds of qualifying singles will kick off the tournament on Thursday with the final round of the qualifying matches occurring Friday morning
Doubles play will begin on Friday afternoon

A Look at Alabama

Filip Planinsek, German Samofalov, Enzo Aguiard, Juan Martin, Joao Ferreira and Rudi Christiansen will represent the Crimson Tide at the ITA Southern Regionals
The doubles pairings Aguiard and Samofalov, Planinsek and Martin, and Christensen and Ferreira will play in the five-day event
With a first round bye, Joao Ferreira will open qualifying play at 11:30 a.m. CT against Javier Montoya from South Alabama
Rudi Christiansen will also have a first round bye, opening action against Walker Sterns from Ole Miss at 12:30 p.m. CT
Christensen and Ferreira kickoff doubles play on Friday as the two battle Louisiana's Calin Postea and Kacper Dworak at 4:30 p.m. CT

The Fall Season

Alabama has competed in two tournaments this season, hosting the Alabama Four-In-The-Fall and the MSU Bulldog Invitational
Juan Martin recorded a pair of singles wins at the MSU Bulldog Invitational, defeating Michigan's Ryan Fu and Mississippi State's Carles Hernandez at the tournament
Martin also posted two doubles victories posting wins with both Patrick Kaukovalta and Rudi Christiansen
Filip Planinsek, Joao Ferreira and Enzo Aguiard opened the season undefeated in singles play as the three Alabama players posted perfect 3-0 records at the Alabama Four-In-The-Fall
Kaukovalta and German Samofalov went 3-0 as a doubles team at UA's home tournament
