The winner will chosen by a selection committee this fall
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball senior Bailey Hemphill is one of over 600 nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year, it was announced this week.
A four-year starter at Alabama, Hemphill is one of the most prolific power hitters in program history, boasting top-five marks at UA in career home runs (50) and RBIs (183) and the SEC single-season record with 26 home runs. She has been equally impressive off the field, earning her undergraduate degree in early childhood development with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. A three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, she was voted the CoSIDA Softball Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in 2019.
"We are so proud of Bailey and all of her accomplishments," UA head coach Patrick Murphy said. "She is a very great nominee for this very prestigious award."
The nominees represent all three NCAA divisions. Conference offices will select up to two nominees each from their pool of member school nominees. All nominees who compete in a sport not sponsored by their school's primary conference, as well as associate conference nominees and independent nominees, will be considered by a selection committee. Then, the Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 — 10 from each division.
From the Top 30, the Woman of the Year selection committee will determine the top-three honorees in each division and announce nine finalists. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year, who will be named this fall.
