Alabama Swimming and Diving Junior Earns Win on Day Two of the Auburn Invitational

Meg Peel won the 100 backstroke with a career-best time of 54.83
AUBURN, Ala. –  Alabama swimming and diving posted six top-five finishes on day two of the Auburn Invitational, including junior Meg Peel's win in the 100 backstroke.
The Crimson Tide finishes off the three-day meet on Sunday, with prelims starting at 9:30 a.m. and finals getting underway at 3:00 p.m.
Top-Five Finishes
- Peel earned the win in the women's 100 backstroke by clocking a career-best 54.83, making her the only swimmer under 55 seconds in the meet
- Freshman Sydney Carlson took second in the women's 400 individual medley with a season-best 4:20.61
- Junior Lydia Jackson was second in the women's 200 freestyle with a season-best 1:48.96, followed by sophomore Ashley Voelkerding, who posted a 1:49.97 to take third
- Sophomore John Shelstad, who was second in the men's 200 individual medley on Friday, took second in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 54.38 on Saturday
- Sophomore Cole Brown finished the men's 400 individual medley in fifth place with a time of 3:58.43, after posting a season-best 3:57.83 in prelims
Next Meet
- The Crimson Tide will return to Auburn and the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in full force on Feb. 18, when the SEC Championships get underway
- The SEC Championships run from Feb. 18-22
- It will mark the first time since 2015 that the meet has been in Auburn
