
Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against No. 15/15 Kentucky in Lexington

Junior Jasmine Walker got back on track with a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Alabama hung tough, but ultimately came up short against No. 15/15 Kentucky, 66-62, on Thursday night inside Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky. The Crimson Tide (13-10, 3-7 SEC) lost its sixth game to a nationally ranked opponent this season, while the Wildcats (18-4, 7-3 SEC) bounced back from a loss against Florida.
Junior Jasmine Walker led the Tide with 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Brittany Davis was the only other UA player in double figures with 10 points off the bench.

"I thought we rebounded, we had some second chance opportunities in the second half compared the first half," head coach Kristy Curry said. "Brittany Davis came off the bench and played well along with Cierra Johnson, Ashley Knight and De'Sha Benjamin. I thought our bench really tried to help us in the second half. The offensive rebounding was also a lot better in the second."
Quarter-by-Quarter
- The two sides started the game slow with the Wildcats taking the 14-10 edge into the second frame.
- Alabama and Kentucky traded leads in the second period, with neither team gaining a significant advantage. UK held the four-point lead into the halftime break, 31-27.
- Kentucky led by as many as 10 in the third quarter after two free throws made it 39-29 with 5:30 to go in the period. Alabama stormed back and a layup by Walker with just under a minute to cut it to 45-43, before a Wildcat three-pointer at the buzzer pushed the lead back to five heading into the final 10 minutes.
- In the fourth, UK added to its lead and went up 57-49 with 3:34 to go. A quick 5-0 run by Alabama made it a one possession game with 2:56 on the clock. Kentucky responded by going up 64-57 with just over a minute remaining when Walker knocked down a clutch triple to trim the deficit to four.
- 26 seconds were on the clock as sophomore Brittany Davis converted two free throw attempts to give Alabama a chance late, however, two free throws by Kentucky with 21 seconds sealed the 66-62 victory.
Player Spotlight
- Walker bounced back after scoring in single digits over the last three games by scoring a game-high 17 points, 15 of which came in the second half.
- Senior Cierra Johnson provided quality minutes off the bench with seven points, five rebounds and five assists.
Key Stats
- The Crimson Tide shot 42 percent (23-of-55) from the floor, while the Wildcats shot at a 38 percent (23-of-61) clip.
- Alabama outrebounded Kentucky 40-35 and outscored the Cats 28-22 in the pain.
- The Tide bench came up big again, outscoring UK 30-20.
- Kentucky took care of the ball, only turning the ball over six times, while forcing 17 UA miscues.
