
Alabama Looks to Carry Momentum into the Cabo Collegiate

The Crimson Tide's second tournament of the spring season will tee off on Sunday morning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Coming off a fourth-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic, the Alabama men's golf team turns its attention to the second tournament of the spring season, the Cabo Collegiate. It marks the second consecutive year the Crimson Tide will compete at the three-day, 54-hole event, which will take place Sunday through Tuesday, March 1-3, on the par 71, 6,807-yard Querencia Golf and Beach Club course in Los Cabos, Mexico.
The Lineup
- The Crimson Tide's five-man rotation will feature two juniors, a sophomore and a pair of freshmen
- Junior Wilson Furr will lead the list, followed by sophomore Frankie Capan III
- Freshmen Thomas Ponder and Canon Claycomb follow in the No. 3 and No. 4 slot, respectively
- Sophomore Davis Shore rounds out the Tide as he makes his return to the starting lineup for the first time in more than a year after recovering from surgery last spring
About The Tournament
- This marks the second consecutive year that Alabama has competed in the event, finishing 13th place overall a year ago
- It will be one of the most competitive fields the Crimson Tide will face all season as 14 of the 15 teams in this year's field are ranked among the top 50 teams in the Golfstat Team Rankings
- Along with No. 42 Alabama, this year's field includes: No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 13 Baylor, No. 14 Arizona, No. 20 Vanderbilt, No. 25 Oklahoma State, No. 29 California, No. 30 LSU, No. 35 Stanford, No. 32 Ole Miss, No. 39 Houston, No. 47 Florida State, No. 50 Arkansas and Rice.
Last Time Out
- Three finished among the top-15 to lead the Crimson Tide to a fourth-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic, with a three-day 54-hole tournament with a team score of 16-under par 848 (285-276-287)
- Alabama boasted four individuals who finished among the top-25 golfers, three of which finished inside the top 15
- Leading the way was freshman Thomas Ponder who tied for ninth overall with a 6-under par 210 (70-69-71), while freshman Canon Claycomb (71-72-69) and junior Wilson Furr (70-68-74) tied for 13th overall with each collecting a 4-under par 212. Sophomore Frankie Capan III placed 24th overall with a 2-under 214 (74-67-73) over the three-day tournament
