The Crimson Tide cards first round total of 4-over par 288 on Sunday
LOS CABOS, Mexico – Sophomore Frankie Capan III and freshman Canon Claycomb each carded a 1-under par 70 to lead the Alabama men's golf team in the opening round of the Cabo Collegiate on Sunday. As a team, the Crimson Tide is in 10th overall with a 4-over 288 on the par 71, 6807-yard Cabo del Sol's Cove Club course.
Playing in a 15-team field that features 14 teams ranked among the top-50 in the nation, No. 42 Alabama will enter Monday's second round 10 strokes back of the overall leaders.
Day One Highlights
- Claycomb and Capan are in a tie for 15th overall at 1-under par 70
- It was Claycomb's fourth consecutive round to begin his collegiate career that he has carded rounds of par or better
- Capan led the team with five birdies on the day on his way to collecting his fourth round of par or lower this season
- Junior Wilson Furr carded a 1-over par 73 and is in a tie for 48th
- Freshman Thomas Ponder is in a tie for 60th with a 75, while junior Davis Shore is in 67th with a 77
The Field
- There is a three-way tie for first overall with No. 13 Baylor, No. 14 Arizona and No. 25 Oklahoma State all shooting a 6-under par 278, 10 shots ahead of the Crimson Tide
- Arizona State, ranked No. 9 nationally, is in fourth with a 281, while No. 20 Vanderbilt and No. 47 Florida State are tied for fifth at 2-under par 282
