Women's Tennis to Match Up with Yale in First Round of Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs will play at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 21 in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama is ready for its first-round matchup against Yale in the 72nd Annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday, Feb. 21 at 12:30 p.m. CT. The Crimson Tide (9-1) has the best non-conference record in the Southeastern Conference, while the Bulldogs (6-2) are coming off of a 4-3 victory over Indiana on Feb. 16.
Other schools participating in this year's eight-team tournament include Arizona, No. 31 Auburn, No. 5 Princeton, South Alabama, SMU, No. 19 Wake Forest and Yale.
The Tide will begin the Blue Gray event by taking on Yale on Friday afternoon, before completing the doubles portion of the second match against either Princeton or South Alabama that same day. Singles play will continue on Saturday, along with a final opponent to be announced after the completion of the morning matches.
Series History
- This is the second meeting ever between the two programs, as Alabama and Yale met in last year's Blue Gray National Tennis Classic with the Tide coming away with the 4-1 victory in the first consolation round on Feb. 23.
Team Info
- Senior Alba Cortina Pou has a team-best 9-0 singles record, while compiling a 6-1 in doubles with partner freshman Sasha Gorchanyuk.
- Freshman Isabella Harvison also has an impressive singles mark with an 8-1 record, while fellow freshman Ares Teixido has totaled an 8-2 record in singles action.
- In doubles, Harvison and junior Moka Ito moved up one spot to No. 55 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings putting together a 6-1 record.
Opponent Info
- The Bulldogs have one of the best doubles team's in the country with No. 3 Jessie Gong and Samantha Martinelli, while Martinelli is also No. 46 in singles.
- Yale's only two losses on the season came to Boston College on Jan. 31 and then to Columbia on Feb. 9.
