Alabama Softball Faces Tough Slate at St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational

Scouting Alabama
- Alabama heads into week two with a 1-3 record after splitting two games with North Carolina last weekend and taking a pair of losses to ninth-ranked Florida State in Tallahassee
- This marks the second consecutive week the Crimson Tide will play multiple games against ranked opponents, facing three in Washington (#1/1), UCLA (#3/2) and Oklahoma State (#16/16)
- Alabama is ranked No. 8 in this week's D1Softball poll, No. 9 in the NFCA and USA Softball polls and No. 11 in the Softball America rankings
- The Tide roster will be bolstered this week by the addition of freshman catcher Abby Doerr, who was cleared by the NCAA to play after graduating high school early and enrolling at UA this spring
- Six newcomers join the Alabama roster for 2020, including five freshmen and graduate transfer Alexis Mack from Oregon
- Head Coach Patrick Murphy, last year's SEC Coach of the Year, returns for his 22nd season at the helm of the Crimson Tide

- Senior Elissa Brown led the team at the plate, hitting .444 (4-for-9) with four runs scored, three of which came in the final game against UNC
- Junior Kaylee Tow led the team with five hits, including two doubles
- Senior Taylor Clark had three hits over the weekend, including her first home run as a member of the Crimson Tide

Abby Doerr Cleared to Join Alabama Softball for 2020 Season
- After signing her national letter of intent with Alabama softball in November and enrolling at the University of Alabama for the spring semester, freshman Abby Doerr has been cleared by the NCAA to join the Crimson Tide and is immediately eligible for the 2020 season
- Playing three prep seasons at Marist High School in Eugene, Ore., Doerr was named the 2019 4A Player of the Year and the Sky-Em Conference Player of the Year while also earning first team all-state honors
- In 2018, she was named the Oregon Sports Award Softball Player of the Year and Mid-Western League Player of the Year, also earning first team all-state and all mid-western league accolades
- She is ranked 41st in her class on the Extra Inning Elite 100 list.
Hemphill Closing in on UA Career Home Run Record, 200 RBIs
- Senior Bailey Hemphill's 48 career home runs ranks fourth all-time and sits 12 behind Kelly Kretschman's (1998-2001) career record of 60
- Hemphill hit nine home runs her freshman season, improved to 13 as a sophomore and tied the UA single-season record last season with 26
- Hemphill also owns 175 career RBIs, putting her within striking distance of becoming the third Alabama player with 200 RBIs
- Charlotte Morgan (2007-10) owns the UA record with 264 career RBIs and Kaila Hunt (2011-14) is the only other player to surpass 200, finishing with 215
