The Crimson Tide moved to 6-0 on the season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The perfect start to the season continued for the Alabama women's tennis team after defeating Cal State Northridge, 6-1, on Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. The Crimson Tide (6-0) finished up its road trip by handing the Matadors (1-1) their first loss of the 2020 season.

"We had a great match today," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "We competed hard and got better as a team. We needed some tough road tests and we got them. It was great for us to get outdoors and see where we were overall. We have a lot of work to do but this group is ready to work."

Doubles

The Tide swept doubles play with court three finishing up first after seniors Luca Fabian and Jacqueline Pelletier cruised to the 6-1 win. Shortly after, seniors Alba Cortina Pou and Ann Selim downed Repina/Tan, 6-2, while freshman Sasha Gorchanyuk and junior Moka Ito closed it out with a 6-3 victory to give Alabama the 1-0 lead.

Singles

Freshman Isabella Harvison bounced back from her loss yesterday in a big way after dominating Jacquie Tan, 6-1, 6-1, to double the Alabama advantage. The Matadors picked up their lone point of the match on court one, before the Crimson Tide rattled off four straight wins to earn the 6-1 win. Cortina Pou, Gorchanyuk and Fabain all eased their way to straight-set victories.

The Crimson Tide returns home to play against Michigan State on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. in Tuscaloosa.
