
Alabama Volleyball Falls to Georgia Sunday in Athens

The Crimson Tide returns home next weekend for its final home matches of the fall against LSU
ATHENS, Ga. – Alabama volleyball couldn't claim its second match of the weekend against Georgia, dropping Sunday's contest in three sets.
Alabama (1-5) held a narrow 33-32 edge in kills over Georgia (3-3) but the Bulldogs found more success at the service line with eight aces and at the net with nine blocks. Abby Marjama continued her streak as the Crimson Tide's offensive leader, posting 11 kills to lead the team for the fifth-straight match. Alyiah Wells hit a season-best .429 and was the team's block leader at three along with Riley Fisbeck. Emily Janek made her season debut in the match while freshman Victoria Schmer played for the first time in her Crimson Tide career.
The teams traded back and forth to start the first set, with a kill from Wells putting the Tide ahead 15-14 at the media timeout. The Bulldogs took their two team timeouts in quick succession soon after, the latter coming with Alabama ahead 20-16. A Fisbeck ace made it 21-16 before a service error and back-to-back Georgia aces forced the Tide to take a timeout at 21-19. Alabama's second timeout came after Georgia tied it late, 22-22, and the Bulldogs held on to win the set, 25-23.
The momentum carried over into the second frame, with the Bulldogs building an early 10-3 lead before the Tide called a timeout. Georgia eventually moved ahead by double digits until, at 18-7, Alabama scored four unanswered capped by a Madelyn St. Germain service ace as the Bulldogs were forced to take a timeout with the score now 18-11. Georgia's second timeout came at 22-17 and they held on to win the set, 25-21. The Bulldogs scored the first two points of the third set and remained in front for the entirety of the frame, eventually winning 25-22 to complete the sweep.
