
Soccer Plays In-State Rival No. 15 Auburn in Friday Night Road Match

The Crimson Tide will look to close out the regular season on a high note at the Auburn Soccer Complex
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team faces off with the 15th-ranked Auburn Tigers Friday night at the Auburn Soccer Complex in the fall regular-season finale. First touch in Auburn will be at 6 p.m. CT and streamed on SECN+.
Last Time Out
- The Alabama women's soccer team (1-4-2) fell last Friday night to No. 8 Texas A&M by a final score of 2-0 at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.
- The Aggies (5-1-0) got off to a hot start scoring in the opening minute, leaving the Crimson Tide to chase the game the remaining 89. Texas A&M registered a corner kick within seconds, where Jimena Lopez redirected it onto the boot of Taylor Pounds for the first goal of the match.
- Coming out of the half, Alabama was the more assertive side and held the majority of possession during the opening 15 minutes of play, spending most of its time in Texas A&M's defensive third.
- In the 62nd, Riley Mattingly took a look from the top of the box nearly finding the corner, she finished with two shots on the night.
- With UA fighting for an equalizer, the Aggies found a way to double their lead in the 67th minute, Barbara Oliveieri completed a give to Laney Carroll to make it 2-0, which would be the final score.
Scouting Auburn
- The No. 15 Auburn Tigers will be playing in their second match of the week, after scoring a late goal to go 1-0 in overtime at LSU on Monday.
- The Tigers enter Friday with a 3-1-2 overall record and will wrap up their regular season efforts at No. 8 Texas A&M on Monday.
- Sydney Richards leads the team with a pair of goals, while the Auburn defense has compiled three shutouts this season.
- Head Coach Karen Hoppa is in her 28th season on the plains and supports a career record of 309-207-50.
- Auburn welcomed 13 newcomers to its 29-player roster and returned eight starters from the 2019 season.
Series with the Tigers
- Friday's match-up marks the 29th meeting in series history between the Tide and the Auburn Tigers.
- Alabama trails the all-time series 8-12-2, but defeated Auburn in overtime, 2-1, in the First Round of the SEC Tournament on Nov. 3, 2019.
- Last season's victory against Auburn marked the Tide's first win against Auburn since 2011.
- In the squad's last meeting, the Tide got on the board early in the eighth minute from Casey Wertz and assist by Kaley Verpaele.
- Auburn tied it up in the 30th minute with a goal by Jessie Gerow.
- In overtime, Macy Clem scored the game-winner in the 97th minute.
- Alabama will be seeking its first win at Auburn since 1998 when UA outshot the Tigers 3-2.
