Senior Nealy Martin notches a goal in the second half
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Alabama soccer team tied the Chattanooga Mocs, 1-1, Sunday afternoon in Chattanooga, Tenn. at the UTC Sports Complex.
From the start of the game, the Crimson Tide played aggressive and with a sense of urgency. Alabama had many opportunities to get on the scoreboard, outshooting the Mocs 6-1, however both teams entered halftime scoreless.
To begin the second half, senior Nealy Martin put the Tide on the board with her first goal of the season in the 57th minute. However, the Mocs responded 20 minutes later, tying the game with a goal by Samantha Shaw.
After playing a double overtime, the match concluded in a tie.
Behind the Box Score
- Alabama had a strong offensive showing, notching 16 shots with four on frame. Junior midfielder Taylor Morgan led the team with four shots, followed by freshman Carlee Giammona with three.
- The Tide earned nine more corner kicks than the Mocs, 10-1.
- Junior goalkeeper Alex Plavin grabbed two saves during the match.
- This is the first game this season that has gone into extra minutes. The last match that extended into double overtime was on Oct. 21, 2018 against the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. That game also concluded in a 1-1 tie.
- This is the first time within the all-time series between the Tide and the Mocs that the two squads have tied. Alabama leads the series 6-1-1.
