The Tide silences the Gamecocks with goals by B. Martin, Wertz, and Mattingly
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Crimson Tide started and completed the first half with a strong offensive performance. They acquired ten shots, compared to the Gamecocks only achieving two. Despite the strong front, both squads entered halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Alabama came out fighting and never looked back. Junior Brynn Martin put the Tide on the board in the 46th minute, assisted by junior Taylor Morgan and freshman Bella Scaturro. Shortly after, junior Casey Wertz scored her third goal of the season in the 61st minute with help by sophomore Abby Bivens. To finish it off, sophomore Riley Mattingly found the back of the net in the 68th minute off a free kick.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
- "I am very pleased with our performance tonight. We had a lot of the ball and created a ton of quality scoring chances. Jacksonville State did not make it easy for us though. Their commitment to defend in and around the box was high class, but our team kept plugging away, did not get discouraged, and were eventually rewarded for our efforts. I was happy to see A.J. Crooks get her first career shutout. She made a huge play for us at 0-0 that could've changed the complexion of the game. This was a good win heading into a very tough home game against North Texas on Sunday."
