The Tide earns the win with goals by Reyes, Wyatt, and Mattingly
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The freshman of the Crimson Tide came out strong and gave Alabama a two-goal lead within the first half. Reyna Reyes scored her first career goal early in the 4th minute, assisted by junior Casey Wertz and freshman Serena Pham. Later in the 33rd minute, Carly Wyatt also acquired her first career goal by a header with help by teammate redshirt sophomore Gabby Duca.
In the second half, Alabama increased their lead to three in the 59th minute with a goal by Riley Mattingly, her fourth of the season, assisted by Reyes. North Texas got on the board in the 76th minute by Berklee Peters finding the back of the net, however it was not enough to complete the comeback.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
- "It's great to be back at home. The road was great for us in a sense that it just took us out of our comfort zone. Obviously, we have five SEC games on the road, and to be able to win games on the road is important, so it was good practice for us. I think what we showed ourselves is we can play on the road and be successful."
- "Scoring early is what we want to do every game, especially in a game like Jacksonville State where we had tons of chances and they just weren't falling. Even going back to Virginia Tech and Chattanooga, we were playing well and the shots weren't falling. Scoring early takes the pressure off and makes you feel a little bit more comfortable."
Behind the Win
- The Tide outshot the Mean Green, 17-10, with ten on frame. Mattingly and freshman Carlee Giammona led the team with three shots.
- Alabama earned six corner kicks compared to North Texas only earning three.
- Junior goalkeeper Alex Plavin collected three saves during the match. Â
- Alabama extends their lead in the all-time series against North Texas, 2-0-1.
