The Tide could not complete the comeback against the Razorbacks
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alabama soccer team fell to the No. 16 Arkansas Razorbacks, 1-0, in the first SEC conference game of the season.
The game-winning goal for Arkansas by Anna Podojil came early, only six minutes into the first half.
Alabama's offense fought aggressively throughout the entire match with unrelenting pressure. Many opportunities to score came as a result, including a cross play by duo freshman Macy Clem and junior Taylor Morgan within the 24th minute, as well as junior Chloe Maize launching a long shot in the 38th minute.
Junior Casey Wertz made a notable breakaway from half field in the 61st minute. From close inside the box, Wertz's shot was saved by Arkansas goalkeeper, Katie Lund.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
- "I am incredibly proud of our effort and quality today. We created some great opportunities, but just could not find the back of the net. We held a very potent Arkansas attack to just one shot on goal, but unfortunately for us, they made the most of it. Thankfully, we've got another great opportunity in a few days when we host a very good South Carolina team."
Behind the Box Score
- Despite the outcome, Alabama outshot the Razorbacks 22-5 with six being on target. Junior Casey Wertz led the team with five shots with two on frame, followed by freshman Carlee Giammona with three.
- The Tide earned nine more corner kicks than the Razorbacks (12-3).
