Edson Ortiz and Jeremy Gschwendtner Open Up Their Fall Season This Weekend at Gamecock Ranked +1

Two rounds of singles will begin on Friday at 8 a.m. CT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama senior Edson Ortiz and junior Jeremy Gschwendtner open their fall season at the Gamecock Ranked +1 Tournament on Friday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 22, in Columbia, S.C. The two will open with two rounds of singles on Friday and will begin doubles on Saturday morning.
Tournament Info
- Ortiz is ranked No. 42 in the nation in singles and comes into the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Black Singles Draw. He will play Phillip Jordan of South Carolina on CourtM3 at 8 a.m., on Friday.
- Gschwendtner will begin his fall campaign against No. 6 seed in the White Singles Draw and No. 122 Chih Chi Huang of Texas on CourtW1 following a match that begins at 8 a.m. CT, on Friday morning.
- On Saturday, there will be two rounds of doubles beginning at 7 a.m. CT. Ortiz/Gschwendtner will play Franco Aubone and Franscisco Bastias of Miami.
- Teams in the tournament include South Carolina, Wake Forest, Miami, SMU, UNC, Texas, Arizona, Liberty, East Tennessee State, Fresno State, Tennessee, Tulane and Auburn.

- Ortiz finished last season with a team-best 23-11 singles record and No. 78 in the final Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings. The Chihuahua, Mexico native, made his way up to the No. 2 spot in the lineup last dual match season.
- Gschwendtner ended his sophomore year with a 13-3 singles mark including a team-high seven SEC singles wins, while playing in primarily the No. 6 spot in his first year of eligibility.
