Foundation has given $8 million to charities throughout the state and region over the last 12-plus years
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 13th annual Nick's Kids Foundation Luncheon was held Thursday in The North Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium where checks totaling just over $500,000 were presented to 130 local and state non-profit organizations. Since Nick and Terry Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2007, approximately $8 million has been given to more than 300 deserving charities and organizations throughout the state and surrounding areas.
The Nick's Kids Foundation is the official charity of Nick and Terry Saban. The Nick's Kids Foundation is a 501©3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and resources for deserving organizations throughout the state of Alabama and Southeast. As the official charity of Nick Saban and his family, Nick and Terry invest their time and energy hosting luncheons, golf tournaments, scrimmages and other events to benefit the cause. Culminating in the Annual Fall Giveaway, the proceeds are given in support of children, family, teacher and student causes.
"We are always excited to be here, this is one of my favorite days of the year," Saban said. "It is fun to see all the kids here and all the players supporting the kids by signing autographs. I want to thank all the folks here that spend and sacrifice their time to try to help the young people. We do it through support, but you do it on a daily basis and make a tremendous sacrifice to improve the youth's quality of life."
Some of the Nick's Kids Foundation projects include 17 for 17 Home Building Project with Habitat for Humanity, the Nick's Kids Playgrounds along the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk and the Alberta School of Performing Arts, as well as the Teacher's Excellence Awards Luncheon.
Nick's Kids was also a major contributor to the Welding & Multi-Purpose Classroom Facility at the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Detention Center that was completed in Summer of 2019 and was instrumental in funding the Phoenix House of Tuscaloosa.
"Growing up, all my father tried to do was help young people have a better opportunity to be more successful and have a better quality of life. The motto is - 'No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.' A lot of people help make all of this possible. We are very proud of the fact that we are going to give over $500,000. Hopefully this will be significant in helping a lot of different groups."
In addition to their work with the Nick's Kids Foundation, the Sabans have also been generous with their personal donations to The University of Alabama's scholarship fund. In June of 2008, Nick and Terry made a $1 million pledge to the University for first-generation scholarships.
Joining the Sabans at the annual luncheon were student-athletes Trevon Diggs, Miller Forristall, Jared Mayden, Xavier McKinney, Dylan Moses, Tevita Musika, Henry Ruggs III, Tua Tagovailoa and Matt Womack.
