BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior Jiwon Jeon was named to the 2019 Southeastern Conference First Team, the league office announced on Thursday. In addition to Jeon's recognition, sophomore Angelica Moresco earned a spot on the conference's Community Service Team.
Jeon, who came to the Capstone from Daytona State, has been one of the Crimson Tide's steadiest players throughout her junior year. She is currently ranked No. 9 overall in the latest Golfstat collegiate rankings and No. 10 in the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Coming off a stellar season at Alabama, Jeon is the only golfer on this year's team to win a medalist honor, doing so in grand fashion when she won the Schooner Fall Classic crown with a 17-under par 196, setting the program record for both 54-hole total and relation to par in a tournament.
The ANNIKA Award Watch List recipient, also played in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur in early April, which featured the top women's amateur golfers in the world. Most recently, Jeon closed post season play tied for 33rd overall at 6-over par at the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional.
Moresco, a two-year letterwinner for the Crimson Tide, served as the women's golf representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), leading all Crimson Tide women's golfers in total hours served in the community. Included in her community service projects, were volunteering her time at the Halloween Extravaganza and working with Project Angel Tree.
On the course, Moresco most recently finished play tied for eighth overall with a 1-under par 215 at the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional, marking the third and final individual qualifier from the Auburn Regional to clinch a spot at NCAA Championship.
Postseason play continues for Moresco next week at the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. The event runs May 17-22 at University of Arkansas at the Blessings Golf Club, in Fayetteville, Ark. After 54 holes of stroke play, the field is trimmed to the top 15 teams and top nine individuals not associated with an advancing team for the final round of stroke play.
