Junior Jiwon Jeon earns a spot on the second team
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior Jiwon Jeon was named to the WGCA All-America Second Team, the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced on Thursday. It marks the 14th consecutive year the Crimson Tide has boasted All-America honorees under head coach Mic Potter.
Jeon adds All-America honors to a resume that already includes SEC First Team accolades.
Jeon, who came to the Capstone from Daytona State, has been one of the Crimson Tide's steadiest players throughout her junior year. Jeon was ranked among the top players in the nation, she finished the year at No. 9 overall in the latest Golfstat collegiate rankings and No. 10 in the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings. The Daegu, South Korea, native led Alabama in stroke average (71.84), average vs. par (-0.19) and victories (1).
Coming off a stellar career at Alabama, Jeon is the only golfer on this year's team to win a medalist honor, doing so in grand fashion when she won the Schooner Fall Classic crown with a 17-under par 196, setting the program record for both 54-hole total and relation to par in a tournament.
The junior also played in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur in early April, which featured the top women's amateur golfers in the world. Most recently, Jeon closed post season play tied for 33rd overall at 6-over par at the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional.
