More than 30 academic programs and organizations were on hand, providing information and guidance on selecting a course of study at Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – While one of the most frequent questions college students are asked is what they want to do after graduation, one of the most important decisions, at least early on, is how they get there.
Some come in knowing exactly what they want to major in and where they're headed with that degree. For the rest, Alabama Athletics' DRIVE for Success initiative is there to lend a helping hand with programs such as the Majors Exploration Fair.
"I learned there are a lot of choices when it comes to majors," freshman basketball player Diante Wood said. "I made a stop at the management booth during the fair and that got my interest, so now I'm thinking about that as a major."
The fair, held in Coleman Coliseum this year, is designed to help Crimson Tide student-athletes discover where they are headed and what major is best suited to helping them get there.
"I'm a math major, but I actually went and looked at the business section because I have a chance to minor in that," freshman baseball player Daniel Carinci said. "I learned that if I'm more specific within my major, I'll have more opportunities later."
The student-athletes that took advantage of the latest DRIVE event learned about more than 30 academic programs and organizations on the UA campus.
"Programs like the Majors Fair shows how much Alabama tries to help the students here," Wood said. "That's one of the main reasons I came here, because I know they can help me not only with basketball, but after basketball, with my future."
