AUGUSTA, Ga. – Alabama junior Jiwon Jeon carded a 4-over par 76 on Wednesday in the opening round of the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur at the Champions Retreat Golf Club. Jeon will enter Thursday's second round in a tie for 40th overall.
The top-30 players after 36 holes will advance to the final round on Saturday, which will be played at the Augusta National Golf Club – the famed home of The Masters. However, the entire field will get the opportunity to play Augusta National for an official practice round on Friday. The tournament is the first-ever women's event at Augusta National.
Jeon played solid throughout the round and was at 1-over par heading into her 17th hole. However, she finished with a double-bogey and bogey over her final two holes of the day to result in the first round total.
Jennifer Kupcho and Zoe Campos share the tournament lead at 4-under-par 68. Just 14 players in the field of 72 were under par in the opening round.
Jeon will tee off Thursday's second round at 10 a.m. ET (9 a.m. CT) off Hole No. 1.
Golf Channel will have coverage throughout the tournament with highlights, interviews and live programming. Saturday's final round will be covered live on NBC from 12-3 p.m.
