The Crimson Tide men and women are at this weekend’s LSU Invitational after sending a contingent to the Battle on the Bayou earlier this season
BATON ROUGE, La. – Alabama track and field is headed back to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Invitational this Saturday at Bernie Moore Stadium. The Crimson Tide men come into the weekend ranked No. 4 while the women are No. 7.
This weekend marks the second time this season that Alabama has sent a contingent to Baton Rouge, following a strong showing at the Battle on the Bayou in early April. This weekend's meet also marks Alabama's regular-season finale, coming just two weeks before the Southeastern Conference Championships.
The Tide will be competing in the sprints, relays, middle distance, steeplechase, jumps and throws at the LSU Invitational, with each group working to fine-tune their performances as they ramp up for the postseason.
Senior Kord Ferguson and junior Shelby McEwen come into the weekend ranked in the top-10 nationally in their specialties. McEwen cleared a season-best 7-4.25 (2.24m) in the high jump at the Auburn Invitational to check in at No. 3 in the nation, while Ferguson is ranked sixth in the discus after a season-best toss of 199-8.0 (60.85m) at the Kansas Relays.
On the women's side of the slate, senior Portious Warren and Haley Teel will look to better their marks in the shot put, where both are ranked in the top-10 nationally. Warren is fourth with a school-record throw of 57-10.5 (17.64m) at the Crimson Tide Invitational, while Teel is eighth after a 56-2.5 (17.13m) at the Florida Relays.
The field events will get underway at 10 a.m. CT, with the women's discus, while the women's steeplechase gets things going on the track at 12 p.m. CT.
