Alabama Track & Field’s Portious Warren Shatters School Shot Put Record

The senior bettered her previous school mark in the shot put by more than three feet
BATON ROUGE, La. – Track and field senior Portious Warren shattered the Alabama school record on the way to winning the LSU Invitational shot put title Saturday.
Warren became the first UA woman with a throw over 60 feet in the shot put, posting a mark of 61-00.75, more than three feet better than her previous best. Her throw also ranks No. 1 in the nation this season and is the first over 60 feet this season. She also won the discus earlier in the day with a toss of 175-1.0 (53.38m).
Overall, the Tide won 11 events during the one-day event in Baton Rouge at Bernie Moore Stadium.
In addition to Warren's wins in the shot put and discus, the Crimson Tide also picked up two more wins in the throws with sophomore Samantha Zelden taking top honors in the women's javelin with a 154-11 (47.22m) and freshman Chago Basso winning the men's shot put with a toss of 62-2.25 (18.95m).
Alabama earned a trio of wins in the jumps on the day. Junior Shelby McEwen took top honors in the men's high jump with a leap of 7-3.75 (2.23m), while junior Abigail Kwarteng won the women's high jump with a mark of 5-10.0 (1.78m). Senior Kiara Williams soared to a career-best 21-3.25 (6.48m) to win the women's long jump.
On the track, Alabama swept the top-four spots in the women's 400 meters, with junior Natassha McDonald taking the win with a career-best 52.35.
Alabama won both the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, with junior Caroline Brooks posting an 11:05.00 to win the women's side, and Elliott Miller, taking top honors for the men with a 9:41.28.
The Tide closed out the day with juniors D'Jai Baker, Takyera Roberson, senior Katie Funcheon & McDonald combining to win the 4x400-meter relay with a 3:36.02.
