The Crimson Tide is coming off its first win of the spring season at last week’s Shoal Creek Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 22 Alabama men's golf team will travel to St. Simons Island, Ga. this week to compete in the 2019 Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Championships. This event will mark the 19th year the tournament has been held on the par-70, 7,005-yard Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course.
The event will tee off with 18 holes of stroke play Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. After the three rounds of stroke play conclude, the top eight teams will advance to match play. The quarterfinal and semifinal matches will take place on Saturday, while the championship match will be held Sunday. The semifinal matches will be streamed online on SEC Network+ and the championship match will be televised live on SEC Network.
Alabama's lineup for the tournament will be the same as when it took home the Shoal Creek Invitational title last week. Sophomore Wilson Furr will be competing in the top slot again after he won his first collegiate medalist honors and led the Crimson Tide to victory in Birmingham. Furr finished the tournament with a season-best 7-under par 209 (72-68-69) and led three other Alabama golfers to top-10 finishes.
Joining Furr will be freshman Prescott Butler, who tied for fourth overall at the same tournament, junior Josh Sedeno, who finished sixth and freshman Frankie Capan III, who finished in eighth. Sophomore Jake DeZoort had a season-best finish with a tie for 31st and will also be competing for the Tide this week.
This year's championship will be another competitive field as all 14 teams in the league are ranked among the nation's top-65 according to Golfstat.com's most recent rankings. Six of the teams rank among the top-25 and 10 rank in the top-40. Along with Alabama, other top-40 teams include: No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 11 LSU, No. 12 Auburn, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 16 Georgia, No. 26 Texas A&M, No. 35 Tennessee, No. 37 Arkansas and No. 40 Florida.
