Alabama Defeats Daytona State, Falls to Denver During Friday’s Match Play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

Crimson Tide will close tournament play against Iowa on Saturday morning
ATHENS, Ga. – The Alabama women's golf team defeated Daytona State before falling to Denver during Friday's match play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The Crimson Tide will close the competition on Saturday morning with a head-to-head matchup against Iowa in the Black Bracket.
The Tide was led by junior Kenzie Wright and sophomore Angelica Moresco, who both finished the day with an undefeated 2-0 mark during the match play portion of the tournament. The duo helped lead Alabama to a 4-1 victory over Daytona State to open match play and collected the only two points for UA in a narrow 3-2 decision against Denver to close the day.
Wright continues to impress in head-to-head competition, improving to 4-0 on the year with her two victories on Saturday. The Frisco, Texas, native began the day with a resounding 6-and-5 victory over Daytona State's Alison Crenshaw. She followed that with a narrow 1-up win against Camille Enright of Denver.
Meanwhile, Moresco has now won three of her four match play contests this season. She opened with a 2-up victory over Jessica Bailey of Daytona State, followed by an impressive 6-and-5 victory over Trussy Li of Denver.
Juniors Jiwon Jeon and Anna Reid both split their two matches on the day. Jeon, who faced off against her former school before coming to the Captstone when UA took on Daytona State, captured a 2-up triumph over the Falcons' Hollie Musk before falling to the Pioneers' Mary Weinstein, 1-up. Reid also secured a win over Daytona State with a 2-and-1 victory over Sadie Chlapowski. However, she fell to Denver's Alyson Bean, 4-and-2. Freshman Mary Mac Trammell had narrow defeats in her two matches on the day, falling to Daytona State's Casey Sommer, 2-up, and Denver's Sophie Newlove, 1-up.
Alabama will close out play at this year's event when it takes on Iowa on Saturday's lone match. The Crimson Tide and Hawkeyes will tee off on Hole No. 10 beginning at 8:22 a.m. CT (9:22 a.m. ET). Live scoring throughout the match can be found on Golfstat.com
