
No. 21 Alabama Women’s Golf Looks to Defend Title at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

Crimson Tide competes in final event of regular season when it tees off Thursday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 21 University of Alabama women's golf team closes out regular season play this weekend when it travels to Athens, Ga., to compete at the 47th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The tournament, hosted by the University of Georgia on the par-72, 6,401-yard course, will include one round of stroke play on Thursday followed by match play on Friday and Saturday.
This will mark the Tide's 38th year competing at the event which started in 1973. Alabama has won the Liz Murphey title in four of the last eight years, including last year when it broke a tournament record with a 15-under par 849.
Eight teams in the 12-team field are ranked among the top-50 of the Golfstat NCAA Division I rankings. Along with Alabama, three other ranked teams are among the top-25 squads in the nation, including No. 6 Arkansas, No. 11 Florida and No. 12 South Carolina. Other ranked teams include No. 36 Ole Miss, No. 37 Kennesaw State, No. 39 Georgia and No. 42 Louisville. In addition Daytona State who is ranked No. 2 in Golfstat's NJCAA rankings, Augusta, Denver and Iowa will also compete this weekend.
Alabama's starting five will be led by Junior Jiwon Jeon, who competed this past weekend at the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur. Jeon will be joined by fellow Junior Kenzie Wright and sophomore Angelica Moresco.
The trio leads the Crimson Tide in stroke average, average vs. par, and top finishes. Jeon boasts a 71.58 stroke average, +0.05 average vs. par and claimed medalist honors at the Schooner Fall Classic in September. Wright and Moresco both hold a 72.84 stroke average with a +1.32 average vs. par. Wright tied for second at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in October and Moresco tied for second at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the beginning of March.
Freshmen Mary Mac Trammell and Anna Reid will also compete for the Tide.
Alabama will tee off at 7:34 a.m. CT (8:34 a.m. ET) on Hole No. 10, and will be paired with Kennesaw State. Live scoring for this year's tournament can be found at www.golfstat.com
