The race will mark the first time in 10 years the schools have squared off in a dual meet
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the first time in 10 years, No. 18 Alabama rowing will square off against the Tennessee Volunteers in dual meet Sunday, March 24 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Being the only two Southeastern Conference schools with a rowing program, the two squads compete in the Big 12 Conference as affiliate members. This is the first time since joining the Big 12 in 2015 that the schools will meet outside of the conference championship in a stand-alone, dual meet.
"We are excited to be heading back to Oak Ridge to face the Volunteers," UA head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "As we are the only SEC schools that sponsor women's rowing, this is a great opportunity to show the quality of rowing in our conference."
Competition will start at 9:20 a.m. CT with the First Varsity 8+. The Second Varsity 8+ (9:40 a.m. CT), First Varsity 4+ (10 a.m. CT) and Second Varsity 4+/Third Varsity 4+ (10:20 a.m. CT) crews will follow, with the Third Varsity 8+ crews wrapping up the racing at 10:40 a.m. CT.
"We are excited to renew a rowing rivalry and look forward to hosting Tennessee a year from now," Putyrae said.
Following Sunday's dual meet, the Tide will return to Tuscaloosa for its last home race of the season Saturday, March 30 against Jacksonville and Creighton. The regatta will also serve as Alabama's senior day and its annual Power of Pink race.
